Red mites are actually mites but are also called blood lice. They drink blood from the bird at night, which can cause it to lose weight, weaken and in the worst case even die. The red mites are in the cracks and crevices of the cage during the day. It is therefore very important to treat both the bird and the cage well against red mites. However, they often have many disadvantages or simply do not work at all. It is important to recognize red mites at a very early stage so that you can start treatment as soon as possible. There are various remedies against red mites available in the pet shop. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet among them, this is partly due to the rapid resistance of red mites. That is why it is best to use various remedies in combination with a remedy against red mites. You can also use a gas burner to destroy red mites and their eggs (obviously pay attention to fire safety). Another cheap solution is to spread salad oil so that the eggs and red mites suffocate or stick in the oil, keep doing this until all red mites are gone.
